SS1149 is a difficult trail to find once you find it off SS1158A; then the next task is to get the knot undone to open the gate closed. Keep the gate closed if you accomplish the knot. This is a sandy trail, not deep, but sand. You will head east on a natural trail across the desert. Full of desert creosote. Someone dumped a disturbing amount of cinder blocks you will need to drive over. 4wd and high clearance recommended. This is an easy trail; however, you will cross many natural drainage sections. They are mostly small washouts, but watch your speed. Impassable in wet conditions. You will cross Spur trails along the way and pass through other gates. Lots of mud holes after monsoons. Sections of Loose 6” rocks. Sand becomes gravel. Around mile 4, you will come across 2 back-to-back obstacles due to erosion; these are soft and washed out, making 4WD and high clearance necessary. Off-camber will become worse over time. Beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Next, you will come to a steep hill climb with a few washed-out areas. Prickly Pear and Ocotillo have joined the landscape. Livestock in the area. The east side of the trail terrain gets rocky and bumpy as you pass through the hills; fallen rocks line the trail. The trail ends at the state line, crossing through a small section of open private property; continue moving and pass through.
