Trail Overview
Trail Ss1037a is an out-and-back route that branches west off trail Ss1037. The road begins as a gravel track and gradually becomes more overgrown as you continue, with desert vegetation encroaching in several areas of the trail. This spur provides additional dispersed camp rings closer to the main Ss1037 corridor. As you travel west, the trail opens to beautiful views of Mount Graham, making the drive especially scenic. Expect sections of dense desert creosote, with some tighter stretches where pinstripes are likely. Near the beginning of the route, there is a small washed-out section; however, an easy bypass is available. Toward the end of the trail, you’ll reach a very large natural tank — an excellent spot to catch sunrise or sunset and a worthy turnaround point.
