Trail Overview
Sheppard Wash Trail is a narrow, overgrown sandy wash route winding through deep desert terrain with tall wash walls and tight S-curve turns throughout the trail. The route is heavily lined with Desert Willow and Mesquite trees creating constant pinstriping and low overhead clearance, especially for taller vehicles. Deep sand runs through most of the wash making 4x4 required, and the trail can quickly become impassable during wet conditions.
About a mile into the trail you’ll reach a gate with a tricky lever latch system. Please make sure the gate is closed after passing through. Beyond the gate the wash narrows even more with tighter turns and heavier vegetation pressing into the trail. Livestock are commonly found in the area so stay alert around corners and blind sections.
The trail itself is more about the driving experience than destination scenery, offering a fun technical sandy wash with tight curves, high walls, and constant maneuvering before eventually dead ending at private property. A valid Arizona State Trust Land permit is required.
