Trail Overview
This trail starts out easy and graded as you head toward the transfer station (green waste disposal site), making for a smooth warm-up. After that, conditions change quickly with washed-out, rutted sections that require careful tire placement. As you climb the switchbacks up the cliff, the road becomes bumpier with medium-sized rocks and deeper erosion, though most obstacles have reasonable drive-arounds. There are a few solid dispersed camp spots along the way. Expect some deep ruts in sections, especially after storms, and be sure to close the gate behind you. The route ends at a trailhead designated for moto and quad use only, but the canyon itself is a beautiful drive with great views. We did this trail in a larger vehicle, so we walked part of it, Cloudburst Canyon, just to take it all in.
Difficulty
Washed-out sections, moderate ruts, and a rocky switchback climb that require good tire placement and basic off-road driving skills. While most obstacles have drive-arounds, high clearance is recommended, and conditions can become more challenging after heavy rain.
