Trail Overview

This Jeep trail is 50 miles, including the road up to and down from Pinal Peak and the one out to Madera Peak. This series of easy, scenic roads will take you from Pinto Mine Road on US 60 to the summit of Pinal Peak, out to Madera Peak for some nice overlooks then down into Globe. The very southwest section of the road is eroding and may reach moderate difficulty soon. The main trail reaches 6,000' elevation and Pinal Peak is almost 8,000. The road to the peak is frequently impassible in the winter but is a nice cool drive other times of the year.

My wife and I started the trail off of 60 west of Miami. Started off easy but soon turned a little tricky. At the bottom of the first big canyon along the wash bottom it was rock covered and pretty technical. Came to a point where the trail got so narrow on a ledge that I thought we were going over. After that came upon several obstacles that my 2 Dr Wrangler handled no problem. I think onx has this trail maybe a little under rated and parts of this trail should be blue.

Ran West to East. A lot of narrow shelf road. A few washes that have eroded enough that got out and looked before I drove through them. A few small rock gardens where you need to pay attention if you don't have rock sliders. At Russel Gulch Campground took a right toward Globe instead of following track as shown to Miami. Burn scar is still very much there.

First off there is a small damaged section of road which is why this is closed. It appears you can use the wash entrance to go around the damage. This is 1/4 mile back from the road block. We meet a nice person leaving a gate across from this wash. and he advised us to use the jeep road to bypass so we could to the entire Pinto to Pinal route. 1/4 mile from the road block, turn into an open area with green gate, pass gate and climb immediately right Steep Hill then left at the apex. continue to Turn around Tank and you will dee the trail you want.

Western part of trail was rough. It was rougher than a “3” rating in many places. One Jeep blew a tire on jagged rocks in a wash. Also had to winch a vehicle out of a washed out part of trail. No other groups. Great scenery.

Great trail. A little bit of almost all types of terrain. Paved road out was closed/blocked on the east side but you can get out or gain access from the east end of the same road. There are a couple areas the roads are pretty washed out, so keep an eye out. We will definitely be back.

Some pretty rocky areas Fording light stream alot More technical than a full beginner trail IMO Rode up to the top of pinal peak Guess my atv was a bit topheavy and was a bit too aggressive with a sideways part of the trail Flipped it sideways, barely managed to unflip with 3 small ratchets…. Bringing the big one and rope next time Overall really beautiful trail though Not an abundance of great camping spots really…. Top of pinal peak is awesome but was still really cold this time of the year… very snowy and wet, would have been alot of work to get a good fire going to warm up
