Trail Overview

The Peck Mine Trail provides a nice secluded tour of part of the Bradshaw Mountains. The trail follows Peck Mine Road, which is a narrow shelf road with some very exposed sections, largely hard-packed, and a small, mildly difficult rock garden approximately a third of the way through the trail. The views are spectacular and there is usually some water running through the last two-thirds of the trail. The trail begins at the intersection of Crown King Road and FS 89, which happens to be the end of the Desoto Mine trail. The Peck Mine trail shares a portion of FS 89 with the Desoto Mine Trail, past the Silver Prince/Swastika and Peck Mines, until the intersection of FS 89 and FS 9268R/202. The Peck Mine is located north of the Silver Prince/Swastika mine. When driving through this mine area it is important to note that you cannot stop on the private property here. The owner has permitted the public to drive through but please do not stop. There are signs all over the area as a reminder. The Peck Mine is also on private property and not accessible to the public.

Difficulty

The difficulty with the Peck Mine trail comes from the mildly difficult rock garden and rocky wash for the last two-thirds of the trail. The trail does have some steep and exposed narrow shelf roads and there is usually water in the creek for the last two-thirds of the trail. The entire trail is also very remote, so go prepared and with a group.

Rock garden was challenging in Tacoma on 33s but managed without issue. Strong 5/10 rating but super fun

The trail is graded from De Soto connector up to the corral, which is a nice place for lunch. After that it gets very narrow with brush so guaranteed pin striping and the riverbed has some decent rocks to navigate. I have 35’s with 3 1/2 lift and didn’t have much difficulty with careful placement

Trail has gotten a bit rougher over time (fun for the experienced driver). Minimum 35’s but recommend 37’s. Driver ahead of me had 38’s and scrapped a few times. Tire placement critical in a few areas. Heavy brush in areas. Watch mirrors in brush. Tight trail. Senator Hwy has gotten rockier over time, so could be a kidney killer if driven too fast. Strong level 6 in my opinion.
