PE1183

PE1183 begins through a gate accessed from Highway 191, just south of the three-way intersection. Keep the gate closed. The trail starts as a wide two-track with sections of 6–12-inch lava rock, creating a bumpy ride. The route S-curves through the hills before climbing toward the top of the ridge, where it follows a fence line. Livestock may be present along the trail. The trail offers views of the Morenci Mine in the distance. The trail eventually reaches another gate; leave it as you found it. From there, PE1183 continues downhill through dense creosote and ocotillo cactus. At the intersection, the trail turns south and continues into the valley, ending near the beginning of hiking trail ZPE1497. This is an out-and-back trail. No obstacles or technical sections, but the lava rock makes for a rough ride. Wet weather can make the trail impassable, and future rain and monsoon activity will continue to alter the terrain and drainage areas.
