Trail Overview

Parker Canyon East is an easy, scenic dirt route perfect for beginners, families, and casual sightseers looking for stunning canyon views with minimal driving effort. Leading to a dramatic eastern overlook of Parker Canyon in the Tonto National Forest, this short spur provides an excellent vantage point over the rugged desert landscape and deep gorges. The trail's mild, unpaved surface is highly accessible, suitable for high-clearance stock SUVs, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and SxSs. With a low technical difficulty and no major obstacles, drivers of all skill levels can comfortably navigate this path while enjoying the beautiful views as they approach the rim. This route makes an ideal companion trip to Natural Drainage Road 488, which explores the western rim and offers a different perspective of the canyon. Accessing the trail is simple via Forest Road 2819, just off the Globe-Young Highway, also known as State Route 288. While the road is generally dry and easy to travel throughout the year, visitors should exercise caution during wet weather when the clay-rich dirt can turn into slick mud. There are opportunities for dispersed camping along the surrounding forest roads, making this a great quick stop during a weekend of exploring the scenic national forest.
