Trail Overview

This short, scenic dirt spur is ideal for history enthusiasts and novice offroaders seeking to explore a unique relic of Arizona's desert past. Spurred off the Globe-Young Highway (State Route 288) near Warm Creek, the trail leads directly to the ruins of an abandoned mid-century estate, offering a fascinating destination in the middle of the desert. Visitors can explore the remains of a concrete swimming pool, a flagstone patio, and the skeleton of the house, all while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding canyons as the highway begins its climb toward the Sierra Ancha mountains. The route features a technical rating of 2, making it accessible for most high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SUVs, and SxSs. The surface consists primarily of natural dirt and loose gravel, though drivers should remain alert for erosion, deep ruts, and potential washouts near the creekbed, especially after seasonal rains or monsoons. This quick, low-difficulty detour provides an excellent, family-friendly stopover with ample space to stretch, explore, and photograph the historic desert ruins.

Overall, the trail was still pretty easy, although recent rain had left it a bit rutted out. House and pool are gone, but there is a cement slab which might be covering the old pool and some stone steps. There’s a cattle tank and you cross over a small spring as you get to where the house used to be. Very interesting geological marker there.
