Trail Overview
This is a technical singletrack that climbs all the way up to the Hyde Lookout Tower. The trail is very rocky the entire way, for 2.2 miles, as it is constantly covered in softball-sized loose rolling rocks. It’s a steep climb, making traction difficult with the layer of loose rocks. There are frequent embedded rock layers forming moderate to advanced ledges. Expect several stair steps on a narrow path with some exposure, and loose rocks to ping you around. The trail will require good momentum to maintain traction. If you pick a good line and have the right tire setup, it’s a really fun trail for more experienced riders. After 1.5 miles, it starts to get steeper, with a few bigger obstacles and switchbacks. There’s a blunt root band that will challenge most riders, plus some technical switchbacks with rock ledges on the inside of the corner. There are narrow sections as it traverses up the side of the hill at a diagonal. The last section of trail that leads up to the fire tower is the most technical and steep, with off-camber rock layers, tight switchbacks, and significant exposure, but incredible views from above 7,200 feet in elevation.
Difficulty
The majority of this trail is very difficult, constantly full of baby head rocks, plus ledge obstacles and technical switchbacks. There are smoother segments that provide some relief and a bit of flow, but they are far and few between. This trail is more suited to advanced dirt bikers comfortable with significant exposure, narrow trails, and technical rock ledges.
