Trail Overview
Trail Number 9825 connects Trail 5 to Trail 6, bypassing the majority of the technical sections to get up to Hyde Mountain. Trail 9825 is still moderate difficulty, and also full of rocks, but not as difficult as the sections on Trail 6 required to ascend to the Hyde Mountain Lookout Tower. The majority of this trail is a wide track that is covered in a loose layer of baby heads that ping you around and make for a slow, bumpy ride. It turns to dirt in short segments, which are a huge relief from the rock layer. The trail mostly meanders between Ponderosa Pine trees and scrub oak on a gradual grade, but other sections are steeper, requiring climbing on another loose layer of rock, sometimes more rutted and off camber, which adds to the difficulty.
Difficulty
This is a moderate trail due to a significant layer of rocks in the trail surface, off-camber ruts, and steep spots. This is ideal for riders with more experience, but it isn’t overly advanced.
