Trail Overview

FS 800K starts off FS 246 with an immediate climb up a hill, quickly gaining elevation before cutting across the top of a burned section. This stretch is exposed with remnants of past fire activity, then drops steeply back down into the valley before climbing again. At the Y, take the left where you’ll spot the trail marker. This section is the most technical—deep ruts, washouts, and uneven terrain make it flexy in spots. High clearance and 4WD are strongly recommended here, and in wet conditions, this portion could become impassable. Continuing, the trail climbs back up to the top, where you’ll pass through a tighter section of pine trees growing close to the road. From there, it drops down another steep hill toward the intersection with FS 800A. At FS 800A, go left and begin the final climb. This last section has a few bumps and ruts, but nothing overly technical. The trail eventually exits near the cabins behind Jacob Lake Inn, just past the Chevron, making for a convenient and recognizable endpoint.
