Trail Overview
FS 636 is a point-to-point route that winds through the forest, connecting FS 248 on both ends. It starts as a wide dirt road with a built-up berm, making for an easy cruise early on before gradually transitioning back into a more natural gravel trail. About halfway through, you’ll enter a burn area with numerous standing dead trees—stay alert, especially in windy conditions. As the trail continues, it begins descending the hillside where conditions change quickly. Rocks have been turned up in this section, and higher clearance is recommended. Near the bottom of the hill, there’s a short but significant obstacle that can catch you off guard if you’re not paying attention. Beyond that, the trail opens into a newly cleared section where logging activity is underway. Off to the east, you’ll catch views of a rock canyon, adding a nice visual reward before the trail wraps up.
Difficulty
The trail is rutted, middle to end, on the north side. Grader has turned up rocks on the hill, with high clearance necessary. Some ruts and tight sections
