Trail Overview

Trail 487 is the first side trail off the Orderville Canyon Trail, which is part of the Great Western Trail. FS 487 offers easy access and great dispersed camping. It’s a wide, non-technical dirt road suitable for 2WD and 4WD. About 0.25 miles in, you’ll reach a gate. Leave it closed. The trail continues into a burned forest area with standing pine trees and multiple camping spots. Watch for downed trees and avoid during heavy rain, as it may become impassable.

History

Trail History (Optional) The Great Western Trail runs through the Kaibab National Forest, following old Native American routes and early ranching roads used for cattle drives. Over time, the U.S. Forest Service developed them into forest roads, and in the 1990s, they were connected into the long-distance trail used today for off-road travel and dispersed camping.
