Trail Overview
Forest Service Road 142A is just shy of 4 miles long and weaves through ponderosa pine and juniper forest. This trail was mapped from south to north. The route begins fairly easy with small rocky and rutted sections, though portions of the trail can become extremely muddy after precipitation. As you travel northwest, you will pass an unnamed tank before the trail gradually becomes rockier with sporadic rock gardens scattered along the route. The trail smooths out again near Tule Tank before becoming increasingly rocky farther north, where several larger rock obstacles must be navigated. Beyond these obstacles, the trail levels out as it follows a narrow saddle. The route eventually ends at a turnaround point that offers excellent views overlooking the West Clear Creek Wilderness.
Difficulty
Expect an uneven, rocky, and rutted dirt trail with loose rocks, erosion, and the potential for muddy sections after precipitation. Several rock obstacles measure just over 18 inches in height and are positioned directly in the middle of the trail, requiring careful tire placement and moderate ground clearance.
