Trail Overview

Forest Road 42 starts in the south as a wide, gentle road of red dirt that weaves between the beautiful Ponderosa Pines of the Prescott National Forest. The South end of this trail is host to numerous campsites, with rock fire rings and large pull-throughs. As it works its way North, the gnarlier this trail gets. There are random rock gardens as you climb up hills, as well as small shelf drops and obstacles that pepper the trail while working your way through the forest. There are wash crossings with off-camber entries and exits, as well as rocky bottoms, which are shaped by the monsoon seasons each year. Enjoyable and at times challenging, this trail is a great way to get a taste of the Prescott National Forest.
