Trail Overview

FR 292 Crazy Jug Point is a beautiful drive that leads through a ponderosa pine forest to a view of the Grand Canyon looking into Tapeats Amphitheater. The spectacular canyonlands panorama includes Fishtail Mesa to the west, Steamboat Mountain, and Powell Plateau to the south. FR 292 Crazy Jug Point is a 4.6-mile point-to-point trail rated 2 of 10 located in the Kaibab National Forest. FR 292 is accessed from FR 425 Big Saddle Trail. At the southern end of the trail, follow the signs to the overlook. There is a "no camping" sign at Crazy Jug Trailhead to Crazy Jug Point. Remote dispersed camping is allowed anywhere north of the trailhead area. Crazy Jug Canyon was formed by an extinct geologic fault line and runs very close to Crazy Jug parking and by Crazy Jug Point. It is a short walk downhill from parking to Crazy Jug Point. Watching the sun set over the Grand Canyon is exceptional and the night sky views are amazing. The trail is open year-round;however, it is not plowed in the winter and may be inaccessible due to snow. There is no cell phone coverage in the area and the nearest fuel is either at Jacob Lake or inside the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The nearest services can be found in Fredonia.
