Trail Overview

A rocky climb up decomposed red rock with stunning views of the Mogollon Rim. Best traveled in Fall or Spring due to a few creeks that run through the area. This route is best suited to high clearance vehicles and is not stock height friendly. A great half-day drive that will build skills in navigating small shelves and medium to large rocks.

Difficulty

This trail is mainly sharp decomposed red rock 8" to 16" in size with rock shelves of 12" to 18" in some areas.

ran the trail from North to South. took 2 1/2 hours with stops for pictures. 4 out of 10 is the correct rating for this trail. there are a few sections after the midpoint where I would rate it a high 4, but never a 5. It's a clearance game with some rock shelves but nothing impossible for a stock high clearance 4x4. Beautiful trails, you can see the colors change along the springs towards the end of the trail.

Nice trail with beautiful scenery, only used 4x4 on a couple spots, not really needed but it was my first time in the trail, no big drops or steep climbs, started from flowing wells and came back around the same entrance

2024 stock Willys. No issues at all. Did use 4 low but more for ease and comfort. Fun trail!

2020 4runner SR5 on 33’s. Started from flowing springs road. The trail is mostly uphill with a lot of loose bedrock. Didn’t need to use atrac at all, 4 low was sufficient. FR 64 entrance from HWY 87 was closed due to wildfire and firefighters setting up water points for helicopters to scoop up with their buckets. Was able to exit from FR 64 onto the highway.
