Trail Overview

Bulldog canyon gives access to the stunning Goldfield mountains and the Sonoran Desert. The trail is open to unlicensed vehicles, but be sure to stay on the designated path-offtrail riding has put this route under threat of closure. Bulldog Canyon is maintained, but it is difficult to anticipate conditions due to erosion. You will need a special, free permit to access this trail, available at recreation.gov. The permit will contain a combination to unlock the gates. Camping is available in a few areas along the way.

Difficulty

Easy: A few steep spots with minor ruts. Suitable for any 4-wheeldrive SUV on the day we drove it.

Bulldog Wash portion was deep sand; used 4WD to get through it as 2WD could not push us through some of the deepest sand. Once got on Bulldog Canyon Trail, we went west. That portion was very rutted and rocky; kept speed about 4 MPH or less.

Just a casual day on the trail with some great scenery. Nearest to the TH we saw the most traffic with just a few vehicles further in. There were just a few spots where you have to pay attention to your lines but other than that the trail was pretty easy. Obstacles didn't require much thought with high clearance and experienced driver.

Great time to visit this trail. It was fun and just slightly technical. Nothing too crazy, a few spots where it would be helpful to have a spotter. But overall doable alone if you wanted. Definitely need a 4x4 in some areas.

Access Description

This trail has five entrances, all with locked gates. We choose to enter via the Blue Point Entrance off Bush Highway, located 1.7 miles east of Usury Pass Road.
