Trail Overview

Bulldog canyon gives access to the stunning Goldfield mountains and the Sonoran Desert. The trail is open to unlicensed vehicles, but be sure to stay on the designated path-offtrail riding has put this route under threat of closure. Bulldog Canyon is maintained, but it is difficult to anticipate conditions due to erosion. You will need a special, free permit to access this trail, available at recreation.gov. The permit will contain a combination to unlock the gates. Camping is available in a few areas along the way.

Easy: A few steep spots with minor ruts. Suitable for any 4-wheeldrive SUV on the day we drove it.

Came in from Blue Point, and went out the Apache Trail side. Just wanted to go out and have some fun. Also I saw the “Tomahawk Mine” I think it’s just the gold field from back then, I couldn’t find no shaft in that area for the time that I had. But other than that it was great. There was also a trail running race going on.

trail was washed out in some areas due to recent rains, there were a few spots i had to use lockers climbing. completed trail in a bone stock 2024 rubicon with no issues. experienced drives will find the lines, some areas for new folks will make them second guess it as there were a few good climbs & drops with 2ft+ ruts. non rubicon or lower suvs have a 50/50 chance as you will frame out or tip. you NEED swaybar disconnects at least to stay planted in some areas.

I've run this trail multiple times, the last time being about 5 years ago. It was rocky, but on the easy side. This time was completely different. Several areas I would describe as at least moderate to difficult. Our 2 Broncos did fine, but we had a SxS with us that was of the hunting type which was top heavy and it was a nightmare getting them thru this trail. Huge gullies and off camber sections. We actually had to wi nch him down one particular section, and he rolled over on his side in another area. This trail is much more difficult than a few years ago, and do not attempt it with anything but a fully capable Jeep or Bronco, or a Polaris/CanAm with high clearance. It's fun with the right vehicle, but do not attempt with anything less capable.

My first time trying out this trail. Lucky I ran into some pros who showed me the way and had a blast! Took me about 3 hours to do the whole trail from end to end, with a lot of stops to enjoy the views.

Bulldog Canyon can be accessed by the following ride types:

Access Description

This trail has five entrances, all with locked gates. We choose to enter via the Blue Point Entrance off Bush Highway, located 1.7 miles east of Usury Pass Road.
