Trail Overview

Bulldog canyon gives access to the stunning Goldfield mountains and the Sonoran Desert. The trail is open to unlicensed vehicles, but be sure to stay on the designated path-offtrail riding has put this route under threat of closure. Bulldog Canyon is maintained, but it is difficult to anticipate conditions due to erosion. You will need a special, free permit to access this trail, available at recreation.gov. The permit will contain a combination to unlock the gates. Camping is available in a few areas along the way.

Easy: A few steep spots with minor ruts. Suitable for any 4-wheeldrive SUV on the day we drove it.

we made it through in a stock jeep grand Cherokee but I highly recommend a more skilled driver. or some friends to help move rocks! deep ruts and a few drops offs that with a small lift would have felt better to go through

You need a Tonto permit, printed, gate code is on the permit, as of 10-11-2024, permit cost $6 good for 6 months. Trail started sandy with winding curves then became rocky. Lots of hills with one steep downhill. Higher clearance useful or you’ll scrape a lot. Couple spots a spotter was nice to have. 4 high highly suggested, 4 low useful once or twice, swaybar disconnect helpful but not needed, lockers not needed. Very dark at night, lights helpful. Dry, dusty. Would do again during day as it seemed pretty from what little we could see.

Access Description

This trail has five entrances, all with locked gates. We choose to enter via the Blue Point Entrance off Bush Highway, located 1.7 miles east of Usury Pass Road.
