Trail Overview

I would recommend this as a summer night run or a daytime run in the fall or spring. The trail itself is very rocky, especially after rain, which can be a bit too much for a stock 4x4. A 4x4 with some height is strongly recommended. The wash has some great obstacles, and the scenery is incredible.

We entered this trail from FDR 1356 and about 3/4 way thru to FDR 10 the trail is completely washed out and is totally un-passable. it appears that during the Monsoons of late Oct 2025 any sand that filled the canyon has been washed exposing nothing but hugh non passable boulders. The void is at least 15ft deep with straight sides on both sides.

Entered from the 88 and got off at the main staging area, took about 3 hours going slow. I have a full size dodge with a slight lift that took it like a champ, I only used 4x4 for half the time. Lots of scenic turn off’s. Very green and many puddles, not much thick mud.

Made it about two miles from the entrance because we got there around 4 pm my ram 1500 did just fine, a lot of rocks and loose granite but we had no problem with it, do spect a few scratches if you drive a full width truck, the views were beautiful

The first trail I have ever done. Im from south Texas so we dont have this type of trails. It was absolutely amazing and had a great time. The trail was in great shape. I found one or two spots where I was doubting myself due to my trucks size but once I figured it out it was eazy.

Rocky through most of the trail. Some areas of slight off camber, softer sandy areas, a few locations to experiment with climbing and flexibility not to difficult

Trail is open. Yes the gate is closed that is because you need to purchase a permit and get the gate codes to get in. Recreation.gov is where you buy the permit.

Very beautiful scenery. Took me about 7 hours from beginning of bulldog canyon to end. Off of bush hwy. Went alone and had to get off constantly to check tire placement in the loop (dry river bed)

Mid evening run from the south entrance to Usery. Hit Spider Bite (high clearance recommend), FD10 and some play areas. Gorgeous scenery.
