Trail Overview

This is a fun wash trail that requires several shallow water crossings. The south end starts off narrow, winding through the scraggly mesquite trees at the base of the rolling desert hills, tight between the bushes with some overgrown grass in the trail. It pops out of the trees at the edge of the shallow Black Canyon Creek, which flows through the wash, thus making the sand wet. There are some chunky rocks in the wash as well. You cross the creek several times and parallel the water in between river crossings, riding on the sand under the shade of big cottonwood trees. It's really scenic next to the water, with a few embedded rock boulder features as well, and whole hillsides of saguaro cactus and rock cliffs. There are a couple of steep exits out of the wash that are rutted out and muddy that could be tricky. The wash also becomes rockier as it goes north, with bigger boulders in the wash that you have to ride over, and some deeper water. You'll likely get wet on this one. At one point, the trail goes directly through the water for several hundred feet.

Difficulty

This one is trickier because of frequent water crossings in a sandy wash and rocky sections in the wash as well. There are segments with lots of embedded boulders in the wash, and a couple of steep and rutted exits from the wash.
