This is the longest single track in the Red Spring Pass trail system. It goes for 5 miles through a rolling, rugged desert terrain that is constantly full of loose baby heads, with ruts and tight turns through cactus. Expect very loose terrain with sudden ruts, and small climbs and descents that will test your traction. This type of terrain will be more difficult with a stiff tire and tube, and could be easier with a soft compound gummy tire. There is a tight switchback near the north end that is rutted out and loose, and will be difficult for less experienced riders. The trail rolls across the desert hilltops, winding between small mesquite trees and barrel cactus, with spiky branches often encroaching into the trail that you have to duck for. The trail is made more difficult in sections with mild side-hilling and larger embedded rock surfaces at times. The trail goes through little ravines and small canyons, up and over the rolling hills, with nice scenery of rock outcroppings and Sardina Peak. There are several intersections with spur trails that are all well marked, making the trail easy to follow. Be aware that this trail appears to be a thoroughfare for illegal immigration.
