Trail Overview
Road 105 is an ideal scenic route for novice off-roaders and those seeking a low-stress dirt road drive through the dense forests of northwest Alabama near Pickwick Lake. The route provides a perfect training ground for inexperienced drivers to build confidence behind the wheel while navigating a mostly straightforward dirt and gravel surface. While the drive is generally easy, travelers will encounter several shallow water crossings that add a touch of adventure without requiring highly built rigs.
With a technical rating of 3, the majority of the trail is highly accessible, though high-clearance stock 4x4s or AWD vehicles are recommended to comfortably manage the occasional rutted sections and minor water obstacles. The trail begins just south of the Tennessee border near County Road 3, winding south toward the scenic banks of the Tennessee River before bending eastward to connect with local routes. This route is typically passable year-round, but seasonal wet weather can temporarily increase water depths at the stream crossings.
Access Description
No permits or fees are required to access Road 105. The trail is an unmaintained public county road and remains open year-round. Drivers should exercise caution during periods of heavy rain, as the shallow water crossings can rise and muddy conditions may make traction difficult for low-clearance vehicles.
