Trail Overview
This off-road trail begins near the junction of the highways to La Ventana and Los Planes, marked by a memorial at the trailhead. Initially, the route skirts a business specializing in Palapa roofs and features relatively simple terrain with some sandy sections. While ideal for motorcycles, ATVs, and side-by-sides, a narrow, high-clearance 4WD with a skilled driver could navigate the trail, though vehicle scratches are likely. Early on, the trail forks, continuing straight, are limited to motorcycles due to storm damage, possibly requiring some walking. Following the main route, drivers will encounter dried cow tracks, off-camber sections, and uneven terrain before making a sharp right into an arroyo. The arroyo is manageable primarily, aside from a challenging stretch of off-camber crevices that could delay larger vehicles. Exiting the arroyo with a left turn, the trail becomes more straightforward, mixing deep sand and areas scattered with handball-sized rocks. The final descent leads to a lagoon popular with kiteboarders, where continuing straight on sandy terrain leads to a stunning beach--a perfect spot for camping.
Difficulty
While this trail is rated for high-clearance 4WD vehicles, it is better suited for motorcycles, ATVs, or side-by-sides. If you opt for a 4WD vehicle, a narrow model like a Jeep is highly recommended. The route includes three to four challenging sections, featuring extremely narrow passages, deep sand, and off-camber, one-sided ledges that require careful navigation and precise driving to avoid damage or mishaps.
