Trail Overview

This trail goes from south to north starting from San Juan de la Costa. Getting to San Juan de la Costa from La Paz is a paved two-lane road. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended, 4WD in a few sections of loose slippery incline. This trail can take up to 2.5 hours. With an approximate length of 70 kilometers, it's a fun trail to explore with a great diversity of terrain. It crosses the mountains with a beautiful view of San Francisco and San Jose Island, their beautiful landscapes, and an active phosphorite mine in San Juan de la Costa. During the rainy season, the road can wash out on some arroyos.

Overall, the road is in good shape (today). There are some pretty steep, loose sections that may stop a 2wd van. We also came across some soft sand. One spot was probably 100ft long and had us spinning tires. We did not need 4wd. We also picked up a nail at some point between La Paz and here. LOTS of washboard.

Lot of unexpected deep sand. Keep your speed down, as the sand is the same color as the road and is hard to see. Rear flat from a cactus thorn.
