Trail Overview
This loop begins and ends along the road between Las Positas and La Soledad, offering a scenic detour that also connects to the crossover route leading to the kilometer 128-to-San Evaristo road. Starting from the Rancho Golondrina side, the trail has been rerouted in places due to off-road race barriers, briefly zigzagging through the desert before reconnecting with the main track about a mile in. From there, the road is smooth until you reach a junction near two ranches, where a hard right turn drops you into a wide arroyo. About half a mile in, the route begins to wind sharply, with a series of steep dips into and out of arroyos that require careful tire placement due to deep holes along the edges. These are the most technical portions of the loop, likely requiring 4WD and potentially airing down tires for traction. Once past these challenges, the trail levels out and returns to the main road, making for a rewarding off-road experience.
Difficulty
This route is largely straightforward, with the exception of two or three challenging dips that may require 4WD to navigate, especially when climbing out, depending on your direction of travel. These sections feature deep holes on one side or the other, which can tilt your vehicle at a noticeable angle. Engaging 4-low and proceeding slowly will usually be enough to get through safely, though airing down your tires can provide added traction and control. In dry conditions, the trail poses few issues beyond these spots; however, in wet weather, the arroyos could fill with water and make passage significantly more difficult.
