Trail Overview
This off-road route begins at Camino Cabo Este, immediately introducing a stretch of corrugation. Shortly after, you'll pass a large landfill, but the scenery quickly improves as you crest a hill, revealing sweeping ocean views. The road then descends toward a sharp left turn at the entrance of the former Hotel Punta Colorada, leading into a sandy, narrow path. Further along, you'll encounter salt flats that can flood during storms or heavy rains--exercise caution if you spot standing water or dark patches. Beyond this section, the trail winds through tighter sandy roads before opening onto a more traveled and graded path, eventually making a 90-degree right turn that leads to Playa La Ribera. This public beach offers free overnight camping, but be mindful of sea turtle nesting areas during the hatching season.
Difficulty
This route is generally well-maintained and should pose no issues, but caution is advised in the salt flat sections where the surface appears packed and smooth. Recent high tides, severe storms, or visible deep tracks near the path may indicate unstable terrain. Before proceeding, it's wise to assess the conditions on foot to ensure a safe crossing.
