Trail Overview

Beginning just off Highway 1, this route to Presa Iguajil offers the easiest off-road access to the San Luis Gonzaga region, making it suitable for nearly any vehicle. However, be prepared: the first 3 to 5 miles are marked by severe washboard (corrugation), which can be punishing even with aired-down tires. Fortunately, the road gradually smooths out as you move deeper into the desert, offering a more relaxed drive past a handful of working ranches--some gated, others open, each marked with signage. A key three-way intersection offers flexible routing: continue straight to reach the dam and connect with rougher tracks beyond, or turn right to head directly to the historic mission at San Luis Gonzaga. While not the most scenic or enjoyable trail in terms of comfort, this route remains the most accessible option for reaching this remote and culturally rich part of Baja.
