Trail Overview
This trail begins at Middle Road where it intersects with Middle Loop, offering a direct route to the coast with several sandy stretches along the way. While generally straightforward, the route includes sections of soft sand--up to four inches deep--where four-wheel drive, reduced tire pressure, or both may be necessary. One of the more challenging segments occurs midway through the route, where the trail drops into an arroyo; although the bottom is unusually rocky and firm, climbing out on either side can be particularly difficult for motorcycles and moderately easier for 4WD vehicles. Caution is also advised near the end of the trail, as the final approach to the beach traverses soft coastal sand dunes--an easy place to get stuck if you're not properly equipped.
Difficulty
The primary challenge on this trail comes from its sandy sections, particularly the uphill stretches in both directions where maintaining momentum is key. The most difficult part is the climb out of the arroyo. Aside from these sandy climbs and deep sand near the coast, the trail is relatively straightforward and manageable in dry conditions.
