Trail Overview
This desert route connects Los Barriles to San Bartolo by following a wide sandy arroyo inland. The trail offers wide-open wash driving with several parallel lines and route options heading in the same direction. The terrain is primarily soft sand with long wash sections that can vary in depth depending on recent weather conditions. Near the end, you’ll reach a scenic palm oasis just outside San Bartolo, with water flowing year-round. The exit climb out of the arroyo toward town is slightly technical but suitable for any stock 4x4 vehicle with decent ground clearance. In a few sections, you may encounter tight squeezes between desert bushes, and light “Baja pinstriping” is possible.
Difficulty
This route is primarily a flat, wide-open wash with some sections of deep sand, making it mostly a 2. The semi-steep, slightly technical climb out of the arroyo near San Bartolo raises the overall rating to a 3, especially in loose or recently washed-out conditions. Suitable for stock 4x4 vehicles with decent ground clearance.
