Trail Overview
This picturesque route, tracing the coast of the Sea of Cortez from Los Barriles to the renowned Punta Pescadero hotel, is a must-visit for adventure-seekers and nature enthusiasts alike. Accessible by any 4x4 vehicle, the trail boasts stunning vistas of the ocean and provides easy access to one of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in the area - a true haven for snorkelers and beachcombers alike. While the road is generally wide enough for one to two vehicles, the final descent to the beach at Punta Pescadero Hotel presents a challenge for two-wheel drive vehicles. However, once at the beach, visitors are treated to breathtaking views and an equally challenging hill on the way out. With its unparalleled beauty and accessibility, the beach at Punta Pescadero is an epic camping destination for those looking to immerse themselves in nature and see one of the most secret coral reefs in the region.
Difficulty
As stated the hill on the way in is very steep and all dirt. So driving down in a 4x4 is no problem. On the way out, if you are in a 2-wheel drive vehicle you may choose to take the paved highway back to Los Barriles. It's paved with many potholes and not very well kept and will take about the same time with some different views. The hill out of the beach in that direction has a bit of dirt at the bottom but with some momentum, you can get to the pavement where you will have no issues from there. If you choose to drive on the beach the sand is VERY soft and you will need a 4x4 and tires aired down.
History
This point was formerly a hotel that specialized in dive groups and famous people that did not want to be found. The original hotel had only 7 rooms and was normally booked by one group taking the entire property. Now they have remodeled and expanded with close to 40 rooms and more amenities. There is a runway nearby that can land small jets now and 7 or 8 multi million dollar homes on the strip past the hotel.
