Trail Overview
Eagle Mine is a challenging trail featuring deep mud holes, standing water, ruts, rocky sections, and technical terrain. Several of the deepest mud and water holes have technical bypasses, allowing properly equipped vehicles to choose alternate lines. Water depth and trail conditions can change significantly following rainfall. 35 inch tires, sufficient ground clearance, and a winch are recommended. Lockers would greatly reduce the need for recovery.
Difficulty
Moderate trail with deep mud, water holes, ruts, rocky terrain, and technical sections. Several deep holes should be avoided at this rating, with technical bypasses available around them. These bypasses are tucked into the tree line and can be easily missed, so careful line selection is required. Trail conditions and water depth can change significantly following rainfall. 35-inch tires, sufficient ground clearance, and a winch are recommended. The trail is rated 5 in difficulty but will likely exceed that rating if not using bypasses.
History
The trail runs through the historic Eagle Mine area, where copper and gold were explored as early as 1903. The historic Eagle Mine name is documented in Ontario geological records and gives the trail its name. The trail ends just beyond the historic mine site. The mine site can be accessed by taking the left turn at the end of the trail. An open mine shaft is located along the trail and should be avoided.
