Trail Overview

The Telkwa Pass offroad route is a scenic and challenging trail located in the Bulkley Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Difficulty

This route consists mostly of narrow rocky terrain with steep grades up to 18-20%. Along the lakeshore the brush gets very intrusive, so be weary about bringing your full-size vehicle through if you are worried about the paint. High clearance is required, 4x4 is required, and a winch is a good idea as this area is known for rock slides.

Caution! The trail is open, but there is a potential washout on the Copper River FSR. Drivers are going around it, but it looks unstable.

The trail has had a number of rock slides this year (2025). One slide has a very large rock in the middle of the trail. The larger slide does have a well worn path through it while another smaller slide has a 20 meter section through a creek with a strong current. And as usual... pinstriping is seen as a Telkwa Pass Badge of Honor.

The trail was washed out and had very fast moving, deep water crossings. The scree hills were also completely soaked making the hill climbs quite difficult. The road was not passable due to snow once we passed the lake headed away from Smithers. Expect vehicle damage from the foliage.

Big avalanche across trail at Western end of Top lake
