Trail Overview
This is a short out-and-back route through a combination of dense forest and open meadow. The trail is open year-round and is not seasonally closed to motor vehicles, making it a useful option when other nearby routes have seasonal vehicle restrictions. The route is generally pleasant, with occasional potholes, mud holes, and a few rockier sections. The most difficult feature is a loose, steep, rocky climb near the very end of the trail, which accounts for the Difficulty 3 rating. The trail may become extremely difficult or impossible to drive when wet. Deep, heavily rutted mud can develop in low areas and may conceal soft ground beneath the surface. Several side trails may lead toward dispersed camping areas, although users should confirm that camping is permitted before setting up. The surrounding forest and meadows offer opportunities to see deer. Wildflowers are common in spring, while autumn brings extensive golden foliage. At the intersection near the cabin route, visitors can continue on foot to explore nearby areas. However, there is no suitable parking at the intersection. A better parking option is before the steep descent, near the signage and silver building, where there is considerably more room. Technically, this trail continues but is seasonally close to motor vehicles. Please check the signage to determine if you are allowed to continue further when you visit. One bar of cell service may appear intermittently, but coverage is unreliable.
