Trail Overview
According to local lore, a rider named Brad lost his finger in 2006, and the trail kept it until 2022. Today, Brad’s Finger is known as a premier backcountry playground in the Ta Ta Creek area, offering a choose-your-own-adventure web of trails for every type of off-roader. As soon as you drop onto the trail, you are greeted by a dense network of OHV offshoots: tight singletrack for dirt bikes and mountain bikes, medium-width trails for ATVs and SxSs, and wider two-track corridors for full-size 4x4s. The trail winds through a nicely thinned section of forest with great sightlines through the trees, making it easy to spot other riders exploring the intersecting lines. Dirt bikers and quad riders will love the natural flow here, featuring plenty of sculpted, bermed corners and rolling whoops. If you want to camp in the middle of the action, a few dispersed campsites are tucked into the trees along the route. Eventually, the main track emerges onto a sandy natural gas pipeline corridor, which leads up to a fun sand-hill play area surrounded by yet another maze of trails. From the pipeline junction, you can either blast straight down the pipeline right-of-way for a long run or veer off to stay on Brad’s Finger until it connects with Prairie Road. Expect weak but usable cell reception (about one bar) throughout the area.
Difficulty
While the trail is wide enough for full-size 4x4s, it earns a 3/10 rating because of long sections of rhythmic whoops and loose, deep-sand hills you have to climb and descend, especially near the gas pipeline corridor. If you are driving a full-size rig, airing down your tires is highly recommended to improve flotation in the soft sand and smooth out the ride over the whoops.
