Loop
Starting from the end of Nut Ridge Road near Lansing, this route leads through woodlands, open clearings, and rolling terrain to reach the undeveloped shoreline of Cayuga Lake. From the trailhead, follow the most visible path westward and gently downhill. Around halfway in, side trails break off toward small streams and gorge overlooks. These can be explored as short diversions before continuing toward the lakeshore. Depending on the season, you may encounter trickling cascades or more prominent waterfalls in wetter months. Trails are unblazed but generally easy to follow; using a GPS or downloaded map is recommended for staying oriented.
After reaching the lake, return the way you came or use a side trail to create a short inland loop back to the starting point. The route’s moderate terrain, occasional muddy patches, and scenic diversity make it a rewarding walk for birders, nature lovers, and anyone looking for quiet day hikes in the Finger Lakes.
