Description
Begin this quiet route at the Burnt Hill Trailhead and head north on the Interloken Trail through a mix of shaded forest and open pastures. After a short distance, turn right onto the Potomac Trail and continue east toward the Potomac Ponds. The trail loops counterclockwise around the ponds, offering peaceful views, birdwatching opportunities, and a glimpse of the glacial terrain typical of the Finger Lakes region. After completing the loop, reconnect with the Interloken Trail and follow it south to return to the trailhead. This route is part of the North Country National Scenic Trail and showcases some of the gentler hiking in Finger Lakes National Forest. Expect minimal elevation change, but be prepared for muddy stretches and seasonal overgrowth. The trail’s mix of forest, meadows, and water features makes it a worthwhile and accessible day hike.
