Begin at the South Slope Trailhead near Burnt Hill Road and follow the South Slope Trail west through open meadows and hardwood stands. After a short climb and descent, reach the Finger Lakes Trail and turn left. This stretch follows a southeastern line along a wooded ridge, offering occasional clearings and access to the North Country National Scenic Trail corridor. At the next junction, turn left again onto the Interloken Trail, a gently rolling path that winds north through mixed forest and reenters open habitat near the original junction with the South Slope Trail.
This moderate route highlights the diverse ecosystems and quiet solitude of the southern section of Finger Lakes National Forest. While navigation is straightforward, some trail sections can be muddy or overgrown, especially after rain. Ticks are common—carry repellent and check thoroughly after hiking.
