This gentle hiking route begins near Teeter Road in the Town of Lansing and forms a wooded loop through the Finger Lakes Land Trust’s Edwards Lake Cliff Preserve. From the trailhead, follow the clearly marked path as it winds through a mature hardwood forest. The route stays relatively level throughout, with occasional small rises and dips as it passes through a mix of upland woods and wetland pockets. In spring and early summer, look for wildflowers blooming along the trail edges and listen for a wide variety of bird species common to the region.
At several points along the route, subtle side trails or open clearings offer partial views west toward Cayuga Lake. The highlight of the hike is the approach to the preserve’s namesake cliffs—glacially carved rock formations perched high above the lakeshore. Take caution near the cliff edges, especially in wet or icy conditions. Though accessible year-round, the trail can become muddy during snowmelt or after heavy rains. No permits are required, and leashed dogs are welcome. This peaceful route is ideal for low-elevation day hikes near Ithaca and offers a quiet escape into the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes.
