Loop
The Lyman Brook Loop begins and ends at the trailhead in Lynes Woods Wildlife Sanctuary off Edwards Road in Westhampton, Massachusetts. From the trailhead kiosk, the route follows a well-marked path through second-growth forest and former farm fields. At the first Y-intersection, stay right to begin the route, passing through mixed hardwoods and skirting vernal pools that appear in spring. Stands of mountain laurel bloom along the trail in late spring.
Continuing east, the route descends gently alongside Lyman Brook, a clear stream that marks the sanctuary’s eastern boundary. This section offers quiet walking with frequent bird activity, especially in spring. The trail then turns west and climbs gradually over slightly rockier terrain before returning to the starting junction. While short and mostly easy, some sections may be uneven or muddy after rain. The route is open year-round during daylight hours and is best enjoyed in spring or fall when wildlife and plant life are most active.
