This moderate hiking route begins and ends at the Mount Tom State Reservation Visitor Center at the intersection of Reservation Road and Christopher Clark Road. Head east on Reservation Road a short distance and turn right onto the New England Trail (NET). The route takes a steady climb up to Whiting Peak along a rugged basalt ridgeline before meeting the DOC Trail near the crest. Make a left, then follow signs onto the yellow-blazed Quarry Trail to descend past former quarry sites before rejoining the NET. Return to the visitor center along this familiar stretch.
Some trail sections may be unclearly marked, and the quarry area includes steep drop-offs—use caution near exposed edges. There are no reliable water sources along the route, and hikers should come prepared with ample water and be aware of tick exposure in wooded areas. The trail offers a rewarding mix of elevation, history, and panoramic scenery typical of day hikes in the Mount Tom area.
