The Schor Conservation Area Perimeter and Summit Loop begins at the main parking area on Shore View Drive in East Chatham, NY. From the trailhead, follow the main route clockwise to trace the outer boundary of the conservation area. The trail gradually climbs through a mix of hardwood forests and open meadows, passing old stone walls and seasonal streambeds. At a marked junction partway in, stay left to continue along the outer loop, avoiding side paths that lead toward the interior trail network.
As the route curves east and then south, it climbs steadily to a grassy summit clearing near the high point of the property. This open knoll offers broad views of the surrounding Hudson Valley and is a good turnaround spot if conditions are wet or time is limited. From the summit, continue following the loop as it descends back into the forest and rejoins the lower trail system. Return to the trailhead by retracing the final stretch of the perimeter route.
This moderate trail is a rewarding option for short hikes in Columbia County, especially for birdwatching and seasonal foliage. The summit views, combined with varied terrain and natural features, make it a worthwhile year-round destination.
