This route begins at the trailhead near the Nature Center off Pond Road, heading out on the Birdsong Trail. From the start, the path enters a mixed hardwood forest with a wide, gently graded tread. Interpretive signs along the way highlight local bird species, especially migratory songbirds common in spring and early summer. After a short distance, the route crosses a small meadow before reaching a junction with the Swamp Trail—stay right to continue through the wetland section. This area includes several boardwalks over marshy ground and vernal pools, where hikers often spot herons, ducks, and frogs. The trail loops back through shaded woods and reconnects with the Birdsong Trail near the original junction.
Although this is a low-elevation and novice-friendly route, muddy conditions are common after rainfall, and sections of boardwalk may be slick or icy in winter. The diverse terrain and rich wildlife make this one of the most rewarding day hikes near Rochester.
