The Caratunk Wildlife Refuge Perimeter Trail begins and ends at the main trailhead off Brown Avenue in Seekonk, Massachusetts. Managed by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, this easy hiking route circles nearly 200 acres of protected land, including forest, meadow, and wetland habitats. The route follows the outer edge of the refuge, using wide, well-maintained footpaths that pass through mixed hardwoods and alongside several small streams and ponds.
From the trailhead hikers usually begin by heading right on the Perimeter Trai. At a few junctions with the interior trail network, stay right to maintain the perimeter course. Occasional trail signs and blazes help keep you oriented. The trail’s gentle grade makes it accessible for most hikers, though seasonal conditions may include mud, ticks, or patches of poison ivy. Pets are not allowed, and visitors must stay on designated paths. Open year-round during daylight hours, this peaceful refuge offers one of the best short wildlife-viewing hikes near Providence.
