Loop
The Lyme Town Forest Loop begins at the small parking area on Orfordville Road and connects several trails within this sustainably managed, multi-use woodland. From the trailhead, follow signs for the Beaver Pond Trail as it winds gently through mixed hardwoods, passing old stone walls and cellar holes left behind by 19th-century homesteads. Around halfway in, take the Ledge Trail spur to climb a short but steep rise to open ledge outcrops offering limited but scenic forest views. The descent reconnects with lower trails, where you can either return directly or explore additional spurs before closing the loop near Whipple Brook.
Seasonal vernal pools, wetlands, and signs of active beaver habitat are common along the route. Wildlife sightings may include moose, bobcat, or migratory birds, and while the trail is well-maintained, some sections can be muddy or icy depending on the time of year. This moderate route combines historic features with peaceful woodland walking for a rewarding half-day hike in central New Hampshire.
