Holt's Ledge Trail begins near the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme, New Hampshire, and climbs steadily through mixed hardwood forest toward an open cliffside overlooking the Connecticut River Valley. From the trailhead, follow the marked path as it ascends across forested terrain, with several short, steep, and rocky sections. About halfway up, the trail passes through a transitional zone of larger boulders and ledges before reaching the open summit area. The ledge offers expansive views west toward Vermont’s Green Mountains and is a known nesting site for peregrine falcons.
Seasonal closures may be in effect from April through August to protect the nesting raptors, so plan accordingly. While dogs are typically allowed on leash, camping is not permitted on or near the ledge due to wildlife protections. Water is limited along the route—seasonal streams may be present near the trailhead, but none are available at the top. This route is best suited for day hikes in the Upper Valley region and offers a rewarding climb with striking views and a chance to observe a sensitive cliffside habitat.
