Loop
The Arshamomaque Preserve Loop begins at a small parking area on Main Road (Route 25) just west of Greenport, on Long Island’s North Fork. This easy coastal route follows a well-maintained footpath through maritime forest, freshwater wetlands, and along brackish tidal creeks. From the trailhead, head north into the preserve and stay right at the first Y-intersection to follow the main loop clockwise. Optional connectors branch off along the way, offering short detours to benches, wildlife blinds, and creekside viewpoints.
The route is mostly flat with a mix of boardwalk and natural tread underfoot. Expect damp or muddy sections during wet seasons. Interpretive signs along the trail highlight the preserve’s rich estuarine ecology and birdlife, including osprey, egrets, and seasonal migratory species. Ticks and mosquitoes are common in warmer months, so appropriate clothing and repellent are recommended. The trail returns to the same starting point, making it a relaxed outing suitable for a short nature walk or longer exploration. Quiet scenery, tidal waters, and abundant bird activity make this a rewarding destination for day hikes on Long Island.
