The Mountain Laurel Loop Trail begins from a small roadside parking area along Deerfield Road in Noyac Hills County Park, located between Southampton and Sag Harbor on Long Island. From the trailhead, the route forms a gentle circuit through low-elevation, shaded oak and pine forest. The trail is well-trodden and relatively flat, making it a good choice for casual hikes, dog walks, or family outings. There are no major junctions or confusing spurs—hikers simply follow the main path as it winds through dense woodland, occasionally opening to pockets of sunlight or subtle elevation changes.
In mid to late June, expect to see blooming clusters of mountain laurel along the route, especially near the mid-point of the loop. The area is typically quiet and uncrowded, but hikers should come prepared for common forest hazards. Tick activity is frequently reported—wear long pants, use repellent, and check yourself and pets after hiking. While this trail is open year-round and accessible in winter, there are no reliable water sources along the way. The experience is a peaceful, shaded walk with seasonal floral highlights and a backcountry feel close to town.
