The Sprig Tree and Old Railroad route begins near a small parking area outside Sag Harbor and forms a complete circuit through lowland forest and marshland. From the trailhead, follow the well-marked path into a quiet, wooded area with relatively flat terrain. Stay on the main route as it meanders past occasional water views and through areas of denser vegetation. Around the halfway mark, the trail passes near the remnants of an old ice house—one of the route’s few historic landmarks.
This is an easy, family-friendly walk with minimal elevation change, but the terrain includes sandy sections that may feel uneven underfoot. Tick protection is strongly recommended, especially in warmer months. While the trail is open year-round, fall through early summer offers the most comfortable hiking conditions. This peaceful forested walk is ideal for those looking for solitude, a light workout, or a relaxed outing with dogs.
