The Morton National Wildlife Refuge Trail begins at the main refuge parking area off Noyack Road in Sag Harbor and follows a well-maintained path through coastal forest and sandy dunes. The route forms a gentle circuit with short side paths that lead to viewing areas along the Peconic Bay. Boardwalks and sandy sections alternate with shaded pine and oak stands, offering opportunities to observe shorebirds, ospreys, and deer along the way. Benches and interpretive signs provide information about the refuge’s habitats and conservation work.
This easy, family-friendly route stays mostly level with no significant elevation changes. The quiet shoreline and diverse birdlife make it one of the best short coastal hikes on eastern Long Island, ideal for wildlife photography and relaxed day walks year-round.
